What inspired you to become a member of the Virtual Advisory Board community?

It was my passion for leveraging collective intelligence and my commitment to continuous professional development. As a seasoned commercial professional with extensive experience across diverse markets and sectors, I have always valued the power of collaboration and diverse perspectives in driving strategic initiatives and business growth. VAB offers a unique platform for engaging with thought leaders and industry experts that fosters a dynamic exchange of ideas and best practices. This aligns with my belief in lifelong learning and my dedication to contributing to the broader business community by sharing insights and strategies gained from my global experiences. Additionally, VAB’s flexible and innovative nature allows for meaningful engagement and impactful decision-making; regardless of geographical boundaries. This is particularly appealing in our increasingly interconnected world.

In what area do you feel board advisors can add the most value for Boards of Directors (BoDs) and executive teams?

By providing specialized expertise and independent perspectives that enhance strategic decision-making and drive innovation. Advisors’ deep industry knowledge and experience enable them to offer critical insights on emerging trends, competitive landscapes, and potential risks. This helps boards and executive teams navigate complex business environments. Advisors also play a crucial role in fostering robust governance practices by scrutinising performance, ensuring compliance, and enhancing transparency. Additionally, they act as catalysts for organisational transformation by challenging established paradigms, facilitating strategic discussions, and mentoring senior leaders. This external viewpoint is invaluable for identifying growth opportunities, improving operational efficiency, and steering organisations towards long-term success. Ultimately, the strategic counsel and thought leadership provided by board advisors empower BoDs and executive teams to make well-informed, forward-looking decisions that align with the company’s vision and objectives.

What would be your dream company/organisation to work with as a board advisor/NED?

My ideal company would be one based in either Switzerland or the MENA region, where I have strong connections. My sector preferences would lean towards the FMCG, tobacco, services, or tech industries — sectors where my experience and passion intersect. I would particularly enjoy contributing to a company that values strategic partnerships and market expansion, areas where I’ve consistently delivered value throughout my career. Additionally, I would leverage my proven expertise in transformation delivery and government affairs to drive impactful change at both the organisational and regulatory levels. My two decades of commercial experience, coupled with a strong focus on performance optimisation and driving growth, position me to contribute to a company that is forward-thinking, innovative and committed to long-term success.

What book or podcast would you recommend to VAB members that might improve their skills in corporate governance, board advisory or boosting board-to-executive team communications?

I recommend High Performance Boards by Didier Cossin, which provides comprehensive insights into what makes a board truly effective. Another excellent read is The Compass and the Radar by Paolo Gallo with great advice on ethical leadership and decision-making. In addition to books, I suggest giving a listen to these podcasts: Masters of Scale with Reid Hoffman and the After Hours podcast run by Harvard Business School.
