Mark Goddard – Get to know our VAB member
What inspired you to become a member of the Virtual Advisory Board community?
I've always enjoyed helping others be successful. That characteristic combined with my experience levels has meant that over the years I have increasingly been asked to help across a wide variety of professional topics. Joining VAB is a great way to continue to do this in an even more impactful way.
In what area do you feel board advisors can add the most value for Boards of Directors (BoDs) and executive teams?
By being a trusted point of view. One that is independent and experienced in the types of issues that occur and therefore valuable to consider before making choices and determining a path forward.
What would be your dream company/organisation to work with as a board advisor/NED?
I have always enjoyed a challenge. They have come in various shapes and sizes over the years. An organisation or company that is faced with significant challenges is what I gravitate towards. Sport and Technology also has a strong pull for me.
What book or podcast would you recommend to VAB members that might improve their skills in corporate governance, board advisory or boosting board-to-executive team communications?
I would recommend The Art of War by Sun Tzu. Mainly because it addresses far more than the theme in the title. As a follow up book recommendation, I would suggest The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. It is really a game changer.
